JSP Foundation:Empowering Lives

post-image-2JSP Foundation, under the aegis of Jindal Steel & Power (JSP), has been implementing multi-dimensional, sustainable social development programs to enhance the quality of life of the communities around it. Pursuing its commitment to the principles of 3 P’s i.e. People, Planet, and Profit, the CSR interventions adopt a 360° approach by proactively addressing the community’s needs and priorities. The programs are designed through a community partnership approach for the vulnerable rural community encompassing the underprivileged of all age groups.

Under the able leadership of Chairperson, Smt. Shallu Jindal, JSP Foundation has achieved recognition at national and international levels. Some of the accolades include National CSR Award 2020 under two categories, Mahatma Award 2021, Golden Peacock CSR Award, CSR Journal Excellence Award 2021, Times Business Award 2022, and the Best CSR Impact award by World Sustainability Federation 2022 for high impact. Some of the initiatives spearheaded by JSP Foundation are as under:

post-image-2COVID-19 led Initiative

With “Nation First-People First” at its DNA, JSP Foundation joined hands with the National efforts to defeat Covid-19 and mitigate the pandemic- induced miseries. During the pandemic, JSP supplied more than 5000 tons of LMO to 13 states in collaboration with the government of India. This included sending tankers through roads and Oxygen Express of the Indian railways. Cryogenic tankers were also lifted through the Indian Airforce’s cargo planes. The company extended curative and preventive support to COVID-19 affected patients with 700 oxygen-supported beds in 2 hospitals and multiple COVID Care centres. More than 5 lakh face masks were distributed to the front-line health workers and the community. Under the “Mission Zero Hunger” program, more than 1 million packets of cooked meals were provided to the needy across the country. More than 5000 vegetable and dairy farmers and 6000 women in SHG were supported through the buyback of their produce as a proactive measure of the Foundation in order to protect the livelihood of the vulnerable community.

Adhering to Juvenile Justice Act 2015, Jindal Children Home was established in Tamnar providing shelter and holistic nourishment to 100 children who lost their parents to the pandemic. Adhering to the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, separate homes were set up for boys and girls. JSP Foundation is nurturing these children, providing them with quality food, nutrition, health care, modern education, sports, dance, and yoga coaching; and most importantly a family.

Through Jindal Prayas Yuva Connect Programme, JSP Foundation has developed Centers of Excellence for 75 boys and 25 girls from the deprived and underprivileged section of society and has been extending centre-based support services through quality education, nutritional support, health services, psycho-social counselling, sports, yoga, music, and other co-curricular activities at Jahangirpuri and Tughlaqabad in Delhi.

Elderly Care with a focus on providing holistic care to abandoned/destitute senior citizens, JSP Foundation has partnered with the NGO SHOWS and is providing rehabilitation, food and nutrition, clothing, and physical and mental health service to 450 elderly persons in Garhmukteshwar in Uttar Pradesh. Through Project Swosti, the Foundation is providing food, nutrition, healthcare, and physiotherapy support on a daily day basis to 300 elderly persons in Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

250 Villagers Get Free Eye Check Up Camp

Nalwa Steel and Power organized the free eye check-up camp at village Motimpur Khurd under Kharora Tehsil village on 20th November, 2022. A total of 250 villagers got their eyesight checked with the help of advanced machines by the team of specialist doctors. After the checkup and consultation, free 160 eyeglasses were distributed to the villagers based on their respective checkup reports. During the check-up, 48 patients suffering from cataract have been operated free of cost at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Raipur. A team of seven doctors led by eye specialists provided consultation and checks to the patients arriving in the free camp.

Swashakti and Swavlamban

To empower rural women, 1,173 micro-enterprises have been promoted with more than 12,000 women in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Odisha. The program is being run by self- help groups focusing on capacity building, processing of indigenous raw materials, with the provision of zero cost revolving funding, packaging, and branding of products along with induction of negotiation skills, for marketing of locally grown and manufactured products like mushrooms, herbal products, agro-processed food, garments, pickles, papad, low-cost sanitary napkins, etc.

National CSR Awards to Jindal Steel and Power in Categories

Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs (CSA) bestowed Jindal Steel and Power with national CSR Awards in two categories, JSP was nominated for awards after a tough selection process in categories of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) works at Aspirational District/Difficult Terrains (Eastern India)and National Primary Regions (support to differently–abled).

JSP led by industrialist Naveen Jindal achieved yet another feat as JSP was selected in two categories of the National CSR Award-2020 by CSA; selection process involving verification words in the field of various ministries, state government, three reputed professional institutions and industries, and business boards.

On these achievements, JSP Chairman Naveen Jindal said, “We are committed to uplifting the underprivileged categories of the society by contributing to nation-building through industries with the aim to maintain Green Earth. We are running a multi-aspect social development program so that we can bring about positive changes in areas around their plant and other places in the nation. Nomination of JSP in two categories of the national CSR Award is in fact an introduction to our resolve and vision to work for the people. People are always first for us.”

Expressing gratitude to the Government of India for the National CSR Award, JSPL Foundation Chairperson Shallu Jindal said that they are grateful and inspired by the nomination. They are more aware of health, education, society, and the climate crisis in other sectors after winning over the pandemic. JSPL’s agri horticulture project over 500 acres of hilly terrain to benefit the scheduled tribe population at Tamnar block of Raigarh was analysed for the award. JSPL Foundation also gave an important contribution to reducing malnourishment in over 1,200 children of Pallahara block in Angul districts of Odisha. Both the programs were analysed for the award in the category of Aspirational Districts/Difficult Terrains (Eastern India) Similarly, the program “The Hope” was analysed for an award in the category of support to the differently-abled.
